The Web is Not DEAD…Just on the Ropes..Interview with Mark Suster

I had a great time interviewing Mark Suster for my web is dead series.

Basically, Mark believes that Open wins over time. AOL, Dell, Microsoft and Google seemed unbeatable, but market forces eventually chip away at areas that are closed to technology..

Here is Mark’s great blog post summarizing his thoughts and the interview.

Here is the interview:

The rest of the interviews, Fred Wilson, Brad Feld, Jon Steinberg, Chris Dixon, Eghosa Omoigui and Seth Levine are archived here.

Open won’t win until it addresses the concerns of BOTH the Enterprise and the Consumer. The Enterprise wants one platform (the web) one interface (the browser) and access to multiple data sets (the context). The consumer wants Convenience, Privacy and Control – right now these two are out of alignment. HTML5 (the silver bullet – NOT) will give you access to the customers mobile device – but with Privacy and Control being addressed it will fail.
