Quick 18...Golf Without the Desktop
Last year, Tom and I backed Brett Darrow when he pitched us on Quick 18. The mission was simple and clear:
Mobile, Social and Web Solutions for the golf industry. Quick18 powers the golf courses brand across the three mediums of Mobile, Social and the Web allowing the course to have total control over their customer and their brand.
Chris, our CTO, calls this trend ‘Mobile Apps as a service’. The golf industry needs this badly.
It’s easier to back entrepreneurs that you have backed successfully before and Brett was the co-founder of GolfNow.com (acquired by Comcast in 2007). Brett knows the pain points of the industry and was quick to realize the move to mobile and how golf courses would want/need the services.
At GolfNow, the courses tee times are aggregated and sit together. The courses are growing tired of that solution.
Quick18 puts the power of marketing, sales, loyalty and communication back in the hand of individual courses. The customer gets a full blown app for the golf course which he/she can access anytime/anywhere to book tee times and communicate with the course.
Because the whole experience is controlled down the line by Quick 18, none of the problems that Fred Wilson outlines in his recent ‘App to App Handshakes‘ post applies. Brett is building this highly scalable business at a fraction of the engineering cost of GolfNow, by taking the desktop and other reliances out of the equation.
Pretty cool solution.
