Good morning…
My ‘degenerate economy’ index is doing extremely (maybe too) well.
Have we become too degenerate?
I started the index last May (built here on Go Thematic) so people could copy and or just follow along and it is now up nearly 80 percent since.
Here are the current positions and weightings:
No index is perfect. I have made about 10 changes since I started the index back in May of 2023. I am focused on keeping the turnover low and easy to follow.
I have focused on companies that are large and profitable (Draftkings and Bitcoin are the exceptions today) and are part of the picks and shovels and culture of this growing economy that is now ‘speculating as entertainment’.
A big miss on my part has been Philip Morris which is in my opinion just too evil and degenerate. Their Zyn tobacco pouches are scary popular. I have also missed Eli Lily and the whole Ozempic trend (I plan on investing in this category next). I also have avoided China the kings of degeneracy.
I worry of course there is ‘run away degeneracy’ much like most people worry about runaway inflation. It seems like everyone is looking away.
For instance, The US is being flooded by Chinese Vapes.
Also, while most of us can speculate as entertainment, too many will not.
Finally, I am not a gun person but I am riding this trend holding $AXON the makers of Taser and the body cameras and armor that police must wear. I call it ‘degenerate adjacent’.
I will be expanding on this index with other products and integrating them into my daily newsletter and Stocktwits.
Have a great day.
