Sunday Reads and Listens - Twitter is Fragmenting, The Tiger Woods of Bowling, A New Instagram? , Elon's New AI Child

Good morning.

It is great to be back in Coronado for rest of summer. I hope to get in a good routine as I start my training for a September week of cycling in the Pyranees.

Today I have a run on the beach with Ellen, a ride down the Strand and an 18 hole walk at San Diego Country Club. The Coronado triathlon.

Onward to the reads and listens…

I will ease in with some great quotes that Morgan Housel shared in a recent post:

I am at the stage in life where I stay out of arguments. Even you say 1+1 = 5, you are right. Have fun.’ - Keanu Reaves

Don’t try to fix people. Just set boundaries.’ - Shibatoshi Nakamoto

(No wonder the ‘block’ on Twitter is my favorite feature. The perfect boundary setter.)

Next, let’s ease into the rest of the links with a few fun ones…

I have never had a hole in one, but it makes sense that Steph Curry makes them. His joy is how I imagine I would feel.

Now to Twitter.

Way back in 2008 we built Stocktwits because I imagined that Twitter would be fragmented. I believed there would be a home for niche communities because of all the subtleties.

Only Elon can kill Twitter. He has the money to keep it going forever and he needs it. It is his penis.

This week I signed up for Twitter Blue after taking a week off the platform. I said I would in a recent blog post

Because I am a VC and part of my job is to help our companies network and be promoted, I have to use Twitter. I do need to figure out a smarter, less time consuming way to invest my time on Twitter. That will involve paying $8 month for Twitter Blue. While Elon and his cronies will chuckle, the joke is on them as I would pay hundreds a month for the right features.

Interestingly as Zuckerberg attacks Twitter, maybe it is Instagram that needs to be attacked with competition. One just launched called Retro and it is getting a lot of press and users.

Next up…AI of course.

Michael Parekh has a great overview of Elon’s Xai announcement. Sign up for his free blog covering all things AI.

(I am sure Elon’s Tesla and SpaceX employees are thrilled about Elon’s new child).

Finally, my fave listens of the week…

Patrick O’Shaughnessy with Jeremy Giffon talking special situations in private markets.

And last but not least for today, Josh Wolfe is a friend and top VC and thinker and he laid out his thoughts on where to make money in AI on the Odd Lot’s podcast which was a great episode.

Have a great Sunday.
