Bonjour From Provence and Bonsoir from Nice...Also A Bucket List Mont Ventoux Ride and Endless Ferrari's
Good evening from Nice where Ellen and I are finishing off a vacation.
Here is my working locations for the next few days…and to my right…Monaco (those white specs are massive yachts).
Ellen and I just watched a helicopter land on one of the white yachts…riveting.
The last few days we were in Gordes, Provence which was fantastic.
Mont Ventoux is just a 40 minute drive from Gordes and a few of my friends (Michael and Roy) were vacationing nearby and said we have to do the ride. Michael had done it a few times (he is 64). I was warned it was brutal and I am not in the best cycling shape, but it is a legendary climb and so of course it was on. Long story short, it was tough and we all made it safely. Strava says it was my third biggest climb ever.
Above The Clouds - Mont Ventoux
The descent was fast and epic and I was shocked, impressed and excited to see thousands of cyclists making their way up the climb (we smartly started at 7 am). Teens and people over 70… road bikes, mountain bikes, gravel bikes and e-bikes. My bullishness on cycling is reinforced.
As for Nice and Monaco…
I wanted to come to see a stage or two of the Tour De France and we have tickets at the finish line (a time trial). Tadej Pogacar will likely win his third Tour and he is a legend. I am hoping for a photo opportunity. Even Ellen knows the cyclists now because of Netflix’s Tour De France series.
On our weekly Trends With Friends podcast we often mention the all-time highs continually happening in Ferrari ($RACE), now a $77 billion company. Michael Parekh has been telling us weekly that it is about Asia and The Arab world when it comes to these types of luxuries and arriving at the hotel I had to ping Michael and say…you were right again…
Most of the license plates were Kuwaiti.
We pulled up to the hotel in a rented Peugot, I hobbled out wearing flip flops and socks and of flipped the keys to the first Kuwaiti I saw and said ‘YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU ARE MISSING!’
I’m sure they will love me at this hotel.
