Catching Up On The Wild West of Web 3 ...
Good morning…
I am still a Web 2 guy in late 2023.
YouTube hooked me back in 2006 and off I went.
The internet is still a baby by the way, including Web 2.
Until recently I rarely bought stuff online. If I needed something I would just send a link to Ellen.
Along came Shopify and a few investments by our fund (Narvar, Manscaped, DSTNC) and I am a Web 2 spending fool.
Yesterday, I got all excited because Shopify emailed me $16 to be easily and safely (I assumed) collected (to spend of course). By the way, what took them so long to hook me for a lousy $16?…

Meanwhile back in the Web 3 Wild West, the only NFT I have was gifted to me by my friend Yoni (Etoro). Yes I should have sold it when I blogged about it at $4,000.
I am not sure what qualifies as making you native Web 3, but you have not even tried unless you have been hacked and had money/crypto/nft’s stolen from you.
I have speculated and will continue to do so and have had money stolen and lost indirectly, but no direct hits on my small wallets.
Actually, as I was writing the last sentence it came to me that I have definitely lost money in wallets whose passwords I have forgotten. I should probably start an NFT project called the ‘Arrows in Back’.
I can imagine if being born before the West was discovered, I would have waited in New York until a bunch of trusted friends had made it and settled before even thinking about it.
I love the West, and appreciate the ‘Wild West’ and the people out trying to settle it for us all, but from what I see and hear, it’s still incredibly dangerous.
This morning I woke to Fred Wilson writing about how he got heisted.
Fred is one of the early settlers and so I will keep waiting for better signs (I think Stablecoins are pretty cool) that the coast is clear before spending more of my time dodging arrows across the Wild West.
Have a good day.
