The Degenerate Economy - An Update ...Also - Marketing Is The New Engineering And Liquid Death

Good morning!

I continue to be amazed at the speculation that is taking place in this economy.

I have long believed (I am a trend follower at my core) that if you can’t beat them…join them.

So, I have been long speculation with my time and my business for a long time.

I am all for speculation.

It is one of the greatest freedoms we have in America.

BUT, like good naked and bad naked, there is good speculation and bad.

I am not a judge and jury about how others do it or should do it because we all have different ‘risk scores’ (dna and life experiences), but I am in constant learning mode about stacking the odds in favor of good speculation.

In April, I decided to call this era of speculation and the economy and the world as we live in the ‘rich man, the angry man and the degenerate man economy.

I built a ‘degenerate man index’ index which I shared in May.

The timing was pretty pretty pretty good. It is up 25 percent since and up 80 percent this year in total. It only contains 8 stocks, so I am adding Robinhood today and eyeing some other names in the gambling and beverage space at the moment including Celsius ($CELH) and Monster Energy ($MNST). I am open to ‘degenerate’ ticker/company ideas so fire away with some thoughts and reasons and catalysts anytime. One thing I am starting to see from my ideas around this new economy is that the best brands/products combine incredible engineering and incredible marketing. You have to have incredible marketing engineering in this new economy.

Like any sector idea, while hot right now, it will cool. I am not some special stock picker but I love trying.

Like writing, expressing my thinking with stock picks helps me think through the trends and industries that are growing and have momentum and hopefully spot future winners.

Have a great day.

PS - I am an early investor (personally) in a beverage company called ‘Liquid Death’. I am not sure there is a better brand name for the ‘degenerate economy’. My good friend Mike Lazerow brought me the investment opportunity because he was so excited about the founder and product and was investing himself. Long story short, the brand/products have exploded in sales and popularity the last three years. I just saw an ad they did on Twitter that made me laugh out loud and I had to share it here below:
