I Love SWAG Golf...A Winner As The Degenerate Economy Accelerates

Golf is a staple sport of The Degenerate Economy and fishing where the fish are is not a crime!

Good morning…

For the last four years my son Max and I have been making personal investment in golf companies whose products we love. I see a lot of pitches as the industry is both large and small and my son Max and his friends take a look at the products and ideas and give me a thumbs up and down. If they like something we dig in and possibly invest.

So far we have invested in Whoosh.io, LAGolf.com and SWAG.golf and I have written about the golf trend here and here. Acushnet is a $ 5 billion public golf company that owns brands like Titleist - $GOLF ( ▲ 0.66% ) . I expect a lot of acquisitions will take place in this massive lifestyle space flush with extremely wealthy people and giant egos.

Way back, my partner Tom and I were seed investors in Golfnow.com which is now a very large company and acquired by Comcast in 2007. A few years back we made one fund investment in the golf industry called Grass Clippings (fund 4).

Today, I wanted to share a little more about SWAG Golf (my friend Jack Newhouse introduced me a few years back) which is a Chicago based company building really fantastic, high quality, high margin, collectible, made in the USA golf products. They started in custom headcovers but now do bags, high end putters apparel and accessories, special drops as well as all kinds of high end private label including this year’s OFFICIAL US Ryder Cup team golf bags

Golf is a staple sport of the accelerating ‘degenerate economy’. From 50 year old fitness freaks who love a Zyn while they play to kids spending a pile of money on special golf drops to a speculating class with the free time to play golf with challenging new formats like ‘par 3’ golf from our own Grass Clippings. What is still an almost impossible game to master is the actaul edge, the moat, and charm of golf. It is YouTube and Instagram that have made it possible to quickly get better at the game as a beginner. The massive onboarding that a digital visual world enabled is golf’s tailwind.

Fishing where the fish are is not a crime!

Have a great day.
