Morals Over Metrics - Thanks Josh Kopelman

Good morning everyone…

I am hurting. So many people in my close network are really really hurting.

I am stuck only thinking about my friends and the horror since Saturday. It’s a black hole for me at the moment.

But, I am with Josh Kopelman who just wrote ‘it is a time for moral over metrics’.

I just heard from a friend/founder in New York (he is 30) that was in a hotel bomb shelter for 36 hours with hundreds of others waiting their turn to try and get home. They did get home.

I know the spirit and hustle and bustle and sounds of Tel Aviv (during peace luckily). He told me how loud the silence was after getting out of the bunker. The worst kind of silence.

Israel is not my home, but it is close to home and very close to my heart and soul and that of Ellen, Rachel and Max.

I can’t explain it to most so I will just share it here. Rachel and Max are getting a wake-up call. It is not pleasant but at least they are getting a wake-up call. It is a time to learn and deal and mourn as jewish people. We will celebrate again soon.

I am all for ‘free speech’. My position though with social media, especially Twitter and Stocktwits (which I started) has been Americans have too much of it. It is a privilege on a private platform not a right. Ok, so Elon made it a ‘right’ and while I believe he could give a rat’s ass about free speech, I am ok with the free speech I am seeing since Saturday (though its gruesome and full of hate). Now I have a better idea of who in my network close and extended is disgusting and has no soul. I can act accordingly. I can call them out and or be quiet. I am mostly calling it out for now but it’s not going to change anything. People can also see my ‘free speech’ and I am ok with them yelling at me and hopefully dropping off my network and lightening my load.

Here is an NYU Student President doing the ‘free speech’ thing. I am sad and upset, but welcome this type of free speech because she took her time, she thought it through, she signed her name and she published it. This speech won’t be so free for her anymore.

The world will change now in major ways.

I will deal with all that in the weeks ahead but for now I need to do more of what Josh is saying and practice moral over metrics.
