A Round For The Ages

I had a couple of friends in town this week and we did one of my favorite back to back golf experiences playing Silverleaf and Scottsdale National.

I was excited to take a couple of half days off and golf with my friends and my son Max.

Thursday at Silverleaf was a typical round for me these days of 86. I lost all my bets, but we had a blast.

I was not expecting much as we teed off yesterday. I three putted the first hole for a bogey. But, I found an old groove in my loop of a swing and went 1 under par over the last 17 holes (4 birdies) to shoot my best round in ages. I only hit a few weak shots all day.

Nobody was more surprised than Max, who has actually taken enough pity on me the last month to offer a few swing thoughts on the range. I have not beaten Max in at least 6 or 7 years so as we hit 15 and I was still even par, he was confident he could catch me with a few birdies. Not to be!

As always at Scottsdale National, we played the extra nine hole par 3 course. On Friday, the greenskeeper puts the 9 pins in the most impossible spots on already crazy greens.

Here is the pin on number 8:

Let’s just say I had more than 72 shots on the 9 holes so the golf gods have everything back in order.

I may never beat Max again so I needed to write it down on this blog.

Have a great weekend everyone.
