Selling Early...
Good morning…
As the markets hit yet another all-time high today people in my Stocktwits feed are talking about selling a stock too early.
If you make a life out of Investing you have sold early...
I am the Stephen Wright of selling early…
My biggest sell early mistake was when I sold my Buddy Media stock in 2010 to buy our first home on Coronado (we still live in it). The company was still private. I believe the valuation at sale was $250 million. I had invested in Buddy Media back in 2007 (at a $3 million valuation (those were the days) after meeting Mike Lazerow in the CBS offices. CBS was acquiring my previous startup Wallstrip and Michael was working at CBS. Long story short, Mike and his wife and co-founder Kass Lazerow and they hustled, pivoted, grew and crushed it. Six months after my sale in the private market, Buddy Media was acquired by Salesforce for $800 million and from there, Salesforce stock probably ran another 10x.
I walk by the house we ‘could’ have had every time I walk that one block to the beach the last 14 years.
Do not get me started on Apple and Robinhood and and and…
PS… it is never too late to index and blame selling early on the dummies that rebalance!
