Stop The Sewage... Southern California Beaches Are Closed

Good morning everyone.

This summer, the Coronado beaches and that of our neighbors in Imperial Beach will be closed for long periods. This is over 12 miles of beach that is not only inhabited by residents and tourists, but by the Navy Seals.

Why?

Sewage from Tijuana river which has been flowing into California freely forever has intensified with all the rains this year.

The next up the coast to face the same problem would be Ocean Beach, Pacific Beach and La Jolla.

This is not some small dollar problem.

So far, $450 million of a needed $700 million has been raised committed by the USA and Mexico.

The Biden administration included funding through the Environmental Protection Agency in this year’s budget to address the strained infrastructure that causes sewage to leak from Tijuana into South Bay shorelines. Mexico is also contributing funding.

But the allocated funds are not enough to fully resolve the problem, and protests have started urging officials from the city, county, state, and federal levels to find more money for mitigation by declaring the crisis a public health emergency.

The ‘Souther Border’ and border wall always gets a lot of attention because news people and politicians can go to ‘the wall’ and point.

This story is eerily quiet.

I will send a Twitter invite to Robert Kennedy Jr. over to the porch for a podcast and swim to see if he can talk about this border problem that I think could easily get very high bipartisan approval for the Fed to step in and preserve the beaches for the military and residents up the coast that do pay taxes as well.

There is a ‘stop the sewage’ site where you can learn more.
