Sunday Reads And Listens - A Big Win For The Degenerate Economy, Apple Device Growth, Longevity and AI
Good morning…
Ellen and I are married 26 years today. We have a really good life together and are very lucky. Me more than here considering her choice of a husband. Happy anniversary Ellen.
It is good to be back home in Phoenix. Ellen and I will be going to game 4 of The Suns/Nuggets game tonight which should be loud and fun.
I also have a good ride planned out this morning with friends and Ellen is hiking with her sister.
You are here for the links so onward…
For the last year I have been digging into what I call the ‘degenerate economy’ which is the next phase of investors, ownership, gambling, living life with a wallet on/in your phone. Robinhood, Etoro, Coinbase, Crypto, Draftkings, Apple pay, Venmo are all now most likely over the hump and will be with us for a generation or two. They have set the stage for this next phase. Yesterday, a horse named Mage won the Kentucky Derby. I should have, could have been an owner through an app and company called ‘Join Commonwwealth’. My friends, Roger Ehrenberg and Jim Payne are both investors in the company and own a piece of the horse. This is so cool. Jim invited me to go and cheer on the horse this weekend, but you know…anniversary. Brian the founder was at my ‘golf CEO summit’ I posted on here a few months ago where we met to talk about how gambling and ownership of teams and leagues and even horses and athletes was changing.
I watched the race and Jim sent me this picture of him and Brian (on the right) holding the crown. I. Am. An. Idiot. That said, I am so excited for Brian and Jim and Roger for visualizing this one…

Having my eyeballs on Stocktwits the last 15 years has given me some unique insights into the ‘degenerate’ economy as it evolves. This weekend is the Berkshire Hathaway annual meeting so of course the Stocktwits community is talking about it and it is trending on Stocktwits. But, so is this highflying and silly shitcoin $PEPE.X. For most this continues to seem dumb, but the subconscious of this generation has their foot and money in the old and the new at all times right now.

I have probably talked about Apple more than any other Company on this blog over the years and as the stock hangs out at all-time highs, Deepwater Research takes a look at why. They say it’s all about the active device base.
My friend Bob, an LP of ours as well, launched a really cool dining app called ‘Dorsia’. It is a direct hit on what I call the LVMH economy. It is a members-only platform with access to coveted reservations at the most in-demand restaurants in New York, Miami, and Los Angeles. I am going to try it out.
I love the SEVEN virtues of great investors.
AI is here and there is NOTHING you can do about it. Great read.
Give this Ric Edelman interview a watch/listen. Ric is a financial advisor that oversees a few hundred billion and has some unique and simple takes on investing and living. You will enjoy.
Enjoy your Sunday.
