Technology Comes For Everyone and Every Thing

Good morning from SOHO, New York.

I have been around the world the last three weeks, had some fun, fast and dangerous bike rides and even fell off my bike hurting myself outside Jerusalem, but the most dangerous part of the trip so far was my taxi ride from Newark airport to my hotel. My driver must have been using some internal taxi ‘Strava’ app and looking for a personal best. He got it.

I have been using Taxi’s of late as leaving major airports it is quicker to grab a taxi, but will be switching back to $UBER and subway once again. Speaking of $UBER, they are up 10 percent today with some form of upside surprise. I use Uber eats more than Uber these days.

While the theme of my trip was not work first and technology, everything about my trip was technology and work.

We are surrounded by and immersed in tech all day long to the point when you have a minute without it, you freak out and check for your phone.

We have heard so much about AI for the last five months because of the launch of Open AI and ChatGPT, but this morning we had the first real casualty. Web 2 textbook and education marketplace and services company Chegg ($CHGG) said AI was hurting their business. It does make sense that students would be the quickest to use AI and so here we are. It’s not like Chegg was in an uptrend or near all-time highs but a 40 percent drop after an 80 percent drop is quite the dagger.

Education is having its ‘Downtown Abbey’ moment and there is no turning back from how AI changes the education systems, structures and business models.
