To Slop or Not To Slop...

Good morning.

I am in San Francisco for the day. I am doing a presentation about the ‘state of the degenerate economy’ later this afternoon…

I am looking forward to seeing some founders and investors as well. I have not been up to San Francisco in years.

Onward…

A pretty big ‘slop’ controversy arose the last few days after Stanley Druckenmiller admitted to using AI for his WSJ op-ed that criticized Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.

I do not use AI in my writing of my newsletter or podcast or for my presentation decks, but I understand that I am already in the minority.

Stanley knows the subject of which he is writing to criticize so I imagine he read what he submitted as did the editors of the WSJ. How the editors did not know Stanley’s writing was all AI seems to be more of the question (for me) as well as their standards and policies for this work are things that should matter.

I don’t read any of the newspapers because I stopped trusting the content and opinions years ago. Show me prices and I can figure most things out myself - which is why prediction markets are so popular as people’s front pages of news and information.

Knowing you can slip the slop by the editors at The WSJ just makes me more wary of anything I would ever read.

My friend Ted Merz (long-time Bloomberg news person) had a good piece on the whole kerfuffle with some of his thoughts.

Have a great day.
