Sunday Reads And Listens...I Am Finally A Masters In Business!

Good morning and to all the mom’s Happy Mother’s Day.

Ellen has me to herself all day. What a perfect day this will be for her…

We are so lucky to have kids that are out in the world that are healthy, curious and I think pretty happy. We will celebrate that!

Onward…

I do not go on many podcast because I have my own.

My friend Barry invited me on his amazing long running Bloomberg podcast called ‘Masters in Business’ and I was excited to do that from Bloomberg HQ last time through New York. Barry and I have been pals for a long time and so he got me going way back to how I got started and my comedy influences from the 80’s in Toronto. We also discussed all my business ideas before the internet!

Barry has it up with a blog post here. My definition of ‘Masters’:

Howard passed on being an early investor in Twitter — and as he says, this show is not called “Howard’s a genius, it’s called Masters in Business, you have to have losses to become a master”.

One other listen I recommend is a true master in venture investing Jeff Richards which I posted on my blog Thursday but must share again today. I re-listened and learned so much about how to find growth and think about the world as an investor in the coming years.

As for some reads…

This weeks post is all bout niche masters and he covers Blumhouse Productions. A great read on how to build a niche powerhouse.

Our firm, Social Leverage, is an investor in Lumida a digitally native, SEC registered investment advisor specializing in alternative investments and digital assets. The founder Ram has a great Twitter feed going on all things banking, digital and investing. He has been very vocal about the aged and frail banking system and some ideas for modernizing…you can read the threads, articles and see his ‘Bankless’ podcast here.

Finally, Rachel and I invested in a fashion/clothing business a few years ago called Krost New York. I love the sweatshirts, the rest is a little too hip for me. You can shop directly on Krostnewyork.com and also find the collection at Urbanoutfitters, Nordstrom and Saks.com."

Sam Krost the founder and designer is building a philanthropic and mission-driven brand. From Sam on the new 2023 collection:

We're excited to announce the release of our Summer 2023 Collection. Through the proceeds of this collection, the brand will plant over 100,000 trees in three different countries through our partnership with Eden Restoration Projects. To celebrate the release, the KROST team worked in partnership with our local nonprofit partner, New York Restoration Projects to plant over 100 trees in Highbridge Park here in New York City.

Have a great Sunday.
